Key Purpose

The Cardboard Baler Technician is responsible for placing cardboard, plastic wrap and plastic straps in appropriate baler or collection point; operating baling equipment to compact cardboard and related recyclable materials; creating and wire tying bales; and maintain a safe work area including rollers. This role plays an important part in keeping facilities organized and compliant with recycling and waste management guidelines.

Ideal Candidate Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or facilities role an asset (training provided)
  • Previous experience wire-tying bales preferred
  • Previous experience in Lock out/Tag out (LOTO) highly preferred
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and follow detailed instructions
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to recognize and report equipment issues
  • Strong attention to safety and detail
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team


Key Accountabilities

  • Places cardboard, plastic wrap, and plastic straps in the appropriate baler or collection point
  • Operates baling machine and related equipment safely and efficiently
  • Loads, compacts, and ties off bales of cardboard for storage or pickup
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area around baler
  • Follows all safety procedures and wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Inspects baling equipment and promptly reports any malfunctions or maintenance needs
  • Locks out/Tags out (LOTO) baler in order to perform technical cleaning of machine and rollers
  • Communicates with supervisors and other related personnel as needed


Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Perform repetitive tasks
  • Physically able to lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods with a minimum of 4 hours
  • Must be able to work under pressure and time deadlines during peak periods
  • Industrial/warehouse setting
  • Exposure to dust and noise levels
  • PPE required (e.g., gloves, safety glasses, safety-toe shoes)
