Key Purpose
The Senior Janitorial Supervisor serves as the lead supervisor on their assigned shift, providing direction and support to custodial teams in a high-volume, 24/7 airport environment. Working closely with the Assistant Facility Manager, this role ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and a consistently clean and safe facility for passengers, tenants, and staff.
In addition to overseeing daily cleaning operations, the Senior Janitorial Supervisor acts as a shift-level escalation point, coordinates resources across work areas, and ensures adherence to schedules, safety protocols, and quality standards. This position also supports the Assistant Facility Manager with hiring and staffing activities for on-site positions, including coordinating recruitment steps, conducting candidate interviews, and assisting with onboarding.

Ideal Candidate Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in janitorial or facilities maintenance, preferably in large public or high-traffic environments.
- At least one (1) year of prior supervisory or lead experience.
- Proven ability to provide hands-on oversight and direction to a custodial team of up to 5 members per shift.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English; bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
- Able to meet all background check and security clearance requirements for airport access.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong communication skills with staff, customer representatives, and management, with a focus on clarity, respect, and inclusion.
- Skilled in administrative tasks such as scheduling, payroll/timekeeping, and workforce coordination, with accuracy and fairness.
- Demonstrated good judgment, professionalism, and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Experience in a unionized environment preferred.
- Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Curious and open to new ways of working, with a willingness to adapt and guide the team through change.
Key Accountabilities
- Direct and support the union custodial workforce on assigned shifts, ensuring work is completed to the highest quality and safety standards.
- Assign and adjust daily work to meet operational needs, using sound judgment when priorities shift.
- Lead safety talks, monitor work areas, and address hazards immediately.
- Oversee special cleaning projects, ensuring they are completed efficiently and to customer expectations.
- Communicate with tenants, customers, and airport representatives in a way that builds trust and reinforces our reputation for excellence.
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain quality, providing coaching or retraining to help staff improve.
- Encourage collaboration, teamwork, and mutual respect across the shift.
- Monitor inventory and ensure supplies are available without waste.
- Review and submit accurate employee timekeeping records and payroll, ensuring fairness and accuracy.
- Partner with the Assistant Facility Manager and ISS People & Culture to address performance issues constructively and consistently.
- Complete required reporting accurately and on time, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and high, elevated work areas.
- Possible exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and cleaning chemicals.
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor airport environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Occasional risk of electrical shock and vibration.
- Noise levels are frequently loud due to operational and aircraft activity.
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs.; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
