Job Description
Hourly Wage
ISS offers full-time employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, as well as a comprehensive leave program based on employment status. The hourly pay range for this position is $21.00 per hour-$21.00 per hour based on experience.
Work Hours
The work hours for this position are Mon-Fri, 6:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Key Purpose
The Media Prep Technician is responsible for media preparation in the research and development area. He or she will perform testing per the established SOPs as required/ outlined. They will also maintain record keeping for procedures performed. Duties will be dependent on operational needs as outlined by ISS clients and contracts.

Ideal Candidate Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, associate or bachelor's degree in a scientific field preferred
- 1-2 years of experience working in a lab
- Computer skills: knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant computer programs
- Analytical and numerical skills: ability to perform mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) in different units of measurement; ability to use concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to read and understand English
- Ability to write correspondence and reports
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding work such as moving and lifting equipment, standing for long periods of time, etc.
Key Accountabilities
- Prepare media for the microbiology departments as specified by customer’s approved SOPs
- Completely fill out the media/ reagent forms for each media/ reagent prepared
- Prepare agar plates for testing Unpack and restock media and supplies in laboratories/ cabinets
- Perform quality control procedures and complete all forms for each lot of media produced according to SOPs
- Perform all quality control procedures when required and complete all forms for purchased media according to SOPs
- Operate sterilization machines according to SOPs and maintain logbooks/records
- Deliver prepared media to the end user
- Follow all established health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations as provided by leadership
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration
- Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions
- The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud
Work Environment
- Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning
- Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body
- No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish, or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment
- Will work in a cold, wet environment
- Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends
- Must be able to work overtime as required
- May be required to work in a confined area
- Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions
