Sustainability Manager
Key Purpose
ISS is seeking a Sustainability Manager to support client needs for sustainability services and to track and report the enterprise’s environmental data. The Sustainability Manager will report to the Head of Business Transformation in the Operations Performance organization. The candidate should be a strong self-starter and adept at building positive relationships with account teams. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success working in client-facing roles, and thrive on identifying and implementing continuous improvement in sustainable building operations.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
Sustainability
- Develop sustainability strategies for client’s sites, then implement programs to achieve the strategy. This includes setting and achieving goals for energy audits, waste reduction, diversion from landfill, circular systems, and employee engagement.
- Point of Contact for Clients to determine where they are in the sustainability journey, identify next steps and suggest programming. Able to communicate clearly with clients.
- Manage sustainability data, including benchmarking and assessing using a variety of internal and client tools. This includes analyzing energy and water consumption metrics to identify opportunities and create plans to sustain environmental savings.
- Cool Foods Relationship Lead for North America, in conjunction with the global goals
- Commercial support: Point of Contact for the Commercial Team activities related to all sustainability responses, including responses to bids and presentations.
- Support the culinary community in Restaurant Sustainability - including plant forward eating, reduction of waste, alternative packaging, upcycling and more as appropriate.
- Own Elevated Outcomes for Sustainability:
- Maintain and Update current programs
- Add new programs quarterly and provide relevant materials for the field
- Training of the materials to the field
- Drive the Company initiatives for Earth Day and World Clean Up Day
- Coordinate with B2C Marketing team for client focused activities as part of the monthly Marketing Calendar and special event options for Elevated Outcomes
Data & Reporting
- Report clear and concise metrics on various energy and sustainability activities (cost savings, CO2, water, etc.), and achievements on prescribed intervals or as requested by clients. Communicate plans and progress to all levels of staff through presentations and meetings.
- Complete Monthly Data reports into Sustainability Databases on time, resolve any issues with data accuracy/completeness, provide quarterly report out to ISS Group on company decarbonization goals.
- Reporting for HSUS, ReFED, Cool Foods, Winnow, and LeanPath.
Financial Management
- Developing business cases, in partnership with finance teams, to estimate and track the financial impact of sustainability initiatives.
- Team Collaboration
- Advise, coach, and support operations staff (facility managers, engineers, technicians, food operations) in identifying, scoping, and implementing energy efficiency improvements
- Collaborate with other ISS Energy and Sustainability Managers to share and learn best practices and publish case studies of successful initiatives. Leverage ISS experts in renewable energy, energy supply procurement, and building intelligence tools to meet client goals.
Projects/Initiatives
- Develop internal sustainability initiatives.
- Work with internal departments to set and comply with sustainability policies.
Other
- Support transitions (start-up of new accounts)
- Improve sustainability of facilities in line with industry best practices such as LEED and beyond.
- Support water saving programs and recycling programs as requested.
- Continually monitor industry trends, evaluate new products and services for potential, and participate in industry working groups. Oversee pilot tests of cutting edge energy and sustainability solutions.
- Utilize internal and third-party sustainability data management platforms for reporting. Ensure data integrity and establish data management processes.
- Lead identification and prioritization of energy capital projects, operational changes and physical plant upgrades that result in reduced energy consumption. This may include HVAC, lighting, building envelope, and response and controls, plug loads, distributed and centralized generation, employee engagement, and evaluating new technologies and services.
- Facilitate renewable energy projects from inception through completion (solar, fuel cells). Ensure client key stakeholder alignment (Technical, Financial, Organizational) is achieved at each phase of the project.
- Conduct energy audits and walkthroughs.
Critical Competencies for Success
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability or Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Civil) or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience with Sustainability, Waste and Materials Management, or Energy Conservation.
- Ability to perform analysis and efficiency calculations.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with ability to interface seamlessly with all levels of management. Comfortable working in virtual environments with remote teams.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively organize responsibilities. Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
- LEED accreditation, preferred
- TRUE Advisor Certification preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
- Must be able to travel

ISS offers full-time employees a variety of benefits, including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance, as well as a comprehensive leave program based on employment status. The annual salary range for this position is $110000 per year - $120000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills and may vary from the range listed above.
